June 1st is Telugu Hanuman Jayanti
Celebrated for 41 days, Hanuman Jayanthi begins on Chaitra Purnima and ends on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha in Vaishakha month.
Tuesday, June 2: Apara Ekadashi
Parana is the term for ending a fast. After sunrise on the next day of the Ekadashi fast, one completes the Ekadashi Parana. Unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise, Parana has to be completed during that day. A transgression is practicing Parana outside of Dwadashi.
June 3rd: Apara Vaishnava Ekadashi
Parana is the term for breaking the fast. After sunrise on the next day of the Ekadashi fast, one completes the Ekadashi Parana. Unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise, Parana has to be completed during that day. It is like a sin not to perform Parana in Dwadashi.
June 4th: Pradosh Vrat, Masik Shivratri
Observed to be seeking blessings of Lord Shiva is Pradosh Vrat, sometimes known as Pradosham in South India. One of the important festivals in june 2024.
In the lunar month, Pradosh Vrat is seen on both Trayodashi Tithis—that is, Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi. There are some who separate Shukla from Krishna Paksha Pradosham.
June 5th: Masik Karthigai
Mostly celebrating Karthigai Deepam are Tamil Hindus. Among the ancient celebrations observed by Tamil people are this one. On the night of the festival day, houses and streets are illuminated with rows of oil lamps or Deepam.
June 6th: Vat Savitri VRat
The lunar calendar of Amanta and Purnimanta calls most of the celebrations on the same day. North Indian states, notably Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana, adopt the Purnimanta calendar. June 15th: Mahesh Navami
Mahesh Navami is celebrated yearly on Shukla Paksha Navami in Jyeshtha month, as per the Hindu lunar calendar. Among the several hallowed names of Lord Shiva is Mahesha. On the auspicious Mahesh Navami, Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva are honoured.
June 15th: Mithun Sankranti
In Hindu calendar, Mithuna Sankranti is the start of the third solar month. Every one of the twelve Sankrantis in a year is very lucky for Dan-Punya activities. Certain periods of time either before or after each Sankranti moment are deemed lucky for Sankranti-related activities.
June 16th: Dussehra of Ganga
Traditionally falling in the Dashami Tithi of Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha, Ganga Dussehra is currently celebrated around May or June. An additional term for Ganga Dussehra, Gangavataran, is the descent of the Ganga.
June 17th: Jayanti of Gayatri
Gayatri Jayanti is the birthdate of the Vedic goddess Gayatri. Veda Mata to many, Goddess Gayatri is the goddess of all Vedas.
June 18th: Nirjala Ekadashi
Among the twenty-four Ekadashis in a year, Nirjala is the most well-known. On Nirjala Ekadashi, one fasts without food or drink of any kind. Nirjala translates as dry. May 19th: Pradosh Vrat
Known in South India as Pradosham, Pradosh Vrat is practiced to ask Lord Shiva for favours.
June 21st: Vat Savitri Vrat
Also known as Vat Purnima Vrat. Married ladies do Vat Purnima Vrat in order to ensure their husband’s health and longevity.
June 22nd: Jyestha Purnima 2024
Purnima or Poornima is the name given to full moon days in North India. Still, in South India, a full moon day is called Pournami or Pournima, and fasting on this day is called Pournami Vratam. Pournami Vratam is observed starting at daybreak and ending with the moon sighting.
June 25th : Krishna Pingala Sankasthi Chaturthi
A Lord Ganesha-related day observed during Krishna Paksha following Purnima.
